Project Name:
Additions/Repairs to the Air Freight Terminal - McChord AFB

Contract Amount: $1,520,000
Performance Period: October 2002 to June 2003
Owner: McChord Air Force Base – 62nd Contracting Squadron

Description: Allen-Bradbury Construction, LLC was the prime contractor on this multi-task contract. Although under one contract, our scope included six separate, and for the most part, unrelated areas of work and tasks to perform. The work included:

In the Administration Offices we performed selective demolition of the existing HVAC system, ceilings and floor coverings and replacing with new. Work in this area included other minor improvements such as plumbing work, CMU block exterior equipment screen, steel stud framing, drywall, display case and postal specialties.
In the Crane Area we constructed a new 1200 SF, CMU Security Vault with bar joints, steel decking and topping slab. Work included structural excavation/fill, concrete foundations/slabs, five new overhead power-operated coiling doors, and a design-build $85,000 ball transfer unit roller deck. A large igloo power pallet roller, concrete slabs, walls, and railings were demolished before work could begin.
At the Freight Building we prepared the existing concrete slab and joints for the installation of a new 3-part epoxy floor coating system and floor markings. This area also received an updated fire alarm system.
At the Traffic Management Office (TMO) we selectively demolished all office ceilings, floor finishes and HVAC System. Also, outside of the existing TMO offices we constructed a new CMU conference room with bar joists and composite roof deck. The existing TMO office area will receive new paint, chair railing with vinyl wall coverings, floor coverings, ceilings, HVAC system and electrical work. At the entrance to the TMO area we constructed a structural steel canopy with steel stud work, metal roof, fascia and soffit.
At the Shipping and Terminal Addition Area we demolished and disabling three of the five pallet scale lifts and installed structural steel pit covers. Work in this area also included new drywall, paint, mechanical ventilation and dust collection and miscellaneous electrical and mechanical demolition.
At the Original Terminal we removed 87 fixed clerestory windows and installed new commercial framed windows, exterior trim and paint.

Although there was some overlap of systems, the above referenced work entailed coordinating the smooth flow of the work force to complete the project on time with minimal interference to the owner and their operations. The field crew of ABC performed all selective demo (except mechanical and electrical), miscellaneous site work and clean-up, all concrete work, miscellaneous steel erection, window installation, finish carpentry, and door and hardware installation. This contract included new construction, repair of and/or maintenance to existing facilities and systems This project is an excellent example of our ability to perform a variety of miscellaneous construction and repairs at existing facilities while keeping a large portion of the building open for operations.
